A photograph of my Dad and Fred Basket, my Dad's 3rd RTO. The photograph was taken inside the perimeter, Autumn 1966. Basket has an AN/PRC-25 Radio on his back, the standard field radio used by soldiers during Vietnam later replaced by the AN/PRC-77. Fred Basket was my father's RTO during operation Attleboro in November 1966. My father and his company were isolated from the rest of his battalion, pinned down by the NVA and almost annihilated before companies from 1/27 led by Major Guy S. Meloy were sent to save the company.
My father stands in front of a guard tower on the Cu Chi perimeter.
This photograph on the perimeter shows a camouflaged bunker in the foreground and soldiers and tank out front.
